Top artistes ignore VGMA campaign

Credible information gathered by Flex newspaper has it that most of the top artistes who have been nominated in this year`s VGMAs are not publicizing the event including the campaign for votes.

Our reporters have done thorough checks on the social media pages of these top stars and we can authoritatively state that none has used the voting poster as their Display Picture aka DP. Most of them have rather used their events or song release posters as their cover photos and this clearly tells us as industry people that, such posters are their top priority before the VGMA posters.

Such behaviors from the these top stars are not making this year`s event look competitive and again it shows their lack of interest in participation. Samini for instance on his official facebook page shared Kofi Kinaata`s voting poster on 24th March and nothing was seen about himself as a competing artiste in some categories. Sarkodie also posted the poster on March 24th calling on his fans to support him through voting and nothing has been seen on his timeline again.

EL also put out a poster on 7th March and that has been the only thing our reporters saw on the timeline of the artiste who happens to be the reigning artiste of the year of the scheme. Stonebwoy at the last time we checked, did not have any recent activity on the scheme be it a poster or written post calling on his fans to vote for him. He has inundated his page with performances of some recent shows and his tour to Jamaica.

Medikal at the moment seems to be one of the busiest artiste and he is seriously and busily cashing in on his gigs. His page is full of gigs he has played in and around Ghana with fans interacting under his videos. His concentration seems to be far away from the VGMA though he has been tipped by some people to win the ultimate award. Guru`s page is also dead silent on the VGMA activities and we believe nobody expected a soothsayer to inform us that he will be silent on the scheme.

Over the years, top artistes in the scheme were soliciting for votes from radio stations, tv stations and social media platforms but now it seems the whole euphoria is down and it`s worrying to us at Flex newspaper. Artistes should know that the awards add to their Cvs, therefore they should be involved to make it work. Interestingly, they are all tight lipped and have denied being silent on the scheme this year.
