Ghanaian actor, farmer and politician John Dumelo has disclosed in a social media post that, if he is given the mandate he will revive the defunct Komenda sugar factory.
According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, if given the opportunity, the factory will start producing sugar within sixteen months considering the planting and harvesting of sugarcane.
He further stated that the factory will need about two hundred thousand tonnes of sugarcane to operate at full capacity.
“I can revive the Komenda sugar factory if given the mandate. That factory will start producing sugar within 16 months (considering planting and harvesting of sugarcane). The factory needs about 200,000 tons of sugarcane to operate at full capacity. We can do it!”
Komenda sugar factory which offered employment to the community and others from far and near was established by Ghana’s first president Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the 1960s and became defunct due to technical and operational challenge as well as poor policies.
